God’s Will for You

Dear fellow disciples of Jesus,

What does God want for your life? What is God’s will for you?

There are aspects of life that are a mystery to us; seasons of life where the next step forward is shrouded in dense fog. In those moments we desire God’s wisdom, the Spirit’s direction, a sense of God’s will for the situation in which we are living.

If your experience is much like mine, there are times when I try to discern the will of God and find God’s will to be something of an enigma. The will of God is seen by many as elusive or complicated—something you might have to go on a pilgrimage or quest to discover.

What a gift, then, to find this word from St. Paul regarding God’s will:

Give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Giving thanks is God’s will for us. Could it be as simple as that?

What would it look like if in those moments when we are facing a decision we started our process of discernment with a prayer of thanksgiving?

Doing so might position us in such a way that we see the whole of our lives—including those areas that trouble us—from a perspective of gratitude.

What would it look like if we approached every aspect of our lives with a spirit of thanksgiving?

Giving thanks for you, in the name of Jesus,
Pastor Mike
